Ah. Picking out a puppy. What agony and what delight! A collie was a must, and a blue merle it was to be, that much was clear. A rough collie that one could reasonably expect to become rather more large than small and of course a puppy already strongly bonded to both humans and (if at all possible) fraternally fond of felines in the friendly way.
As luck would have it, during the night of the very day upon which we began our search, Blue Blossom of the Collies of Kingly Shine delivered her first litter under the responsible care and supervision of Sabine Scheinkönig. Emails were exchanged. Impressions here, impressions there. Photos admired and swooned and cooed over. Questions asked and answered and recommendations given. The blue merle pirate with the dark patch on the right side of the face it was to be. Our collie was reserved for us. Blue Cloud Dancing of Kingly Shine. And now came the hardest part. Waiting! Sabine kept us afloat with emails and photographs and telephone calls and visits. Visits during which we cuddled the canine cutie and were utterly charmed. By the time adoption day was finally upon us, Cloud had grown from a handful of warmth into a puppy both inclined to sit back and watch and think ... as well as one ready and able to clamber out of the puppy box in the wee hours of the morning in determined search of his people.
Time to move. Not to move house, but to move dog. Quite an experience for all concerned. Our poor Cloud was ill in the car for almost the entire duration of the two-hour trip from his breeder's home in Germany's Hessia to our place in Baden. And the first night ... oh my! Not only did Cloud miss his canine clan terribly ...
